Ophthalmologist Tjeerd de Faber is retiring after forty “horrible New Year’s Eves”
It’ll take some getting used to on New Year’s Day morning. For the first time in nearly forty years, Tjeerd de Faber won’t be on the radio or TV talking about “horrific New Year’s Eve incidents” caused by fireworks. Pediatrician De Faber (70) is retiring just before the New Year.
The timing of his retirement is no coincidence, says Tjeerd de Faber. Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed a ban on fireworks. Starting next New Year’s Eve, the sale and use of consumer fireworks will be prohibited.
Faber was overjoyed when the news broke and says he can now retire with peace of mind.
