You can also receive outpatient educational support while you’re in college. Unlike in high school, there is no separate budget available for students to fund accommodations or modifications. To organize accommodations for students with disabilities, educational institutions receive funding from the government. These funds are intended for general accommodations for students with disabilities, such as a special exam room or a designated contact person.

You can apply for other accommodations—such as a larger monitor, magnification software, or a viewing aid for the lecture hall—yourself through the UWV or your local municipality. You can ask the academic advisor, dean, or coordinator responsible for “studying with a disability” in your chosen program to tell you more about these options.

We recommend that you don’t just think about the program itself. When choosing a program, it’s also important to start thinking about what comes next. Do you have a realistic chance of finding a job after completing your preferred program? Or is that more difficult because you have vision in only one eye or wear two ocular prostheses?

2. The Itinerant Educational Counselor (AOB)
