Care Leave Policy for Parents of Seriously Ill Children
Good news! On February 11, the House of Representatives passed a motion to establish a medical leave program for parents of seriously ill children!
The motion was introduced by Members of Parliament Lisa Westerveld and Mariëtte Patijn of GroenLinks-PvdA, in response to the petition “Working parents with seriously ill children; Caught between work and care(s),” which was presented to the House of Representatives Committee on Social Affairs and Employment on January 14.
It is now up to the Ministry of Social Affairs and Employment to implement this before the 2025 summer recess, in collaboration with advocacy groups, labor unions, employers, and implementing organizations. The topic is also on the agenda for the Committee debate on Labor Market Policy on March 6.
