On Thursday, June 13, 2024, the “Oog in OOG” exhibition opened at the muZIEum. This exhibition featured photographs of people with eye prostheses. The portraits were taken by Marina Marinkovic, who is not only an ophthalmologist but also a photographer. The OOG in OOG Association published a booklet featuring this series of portraits.

Marina: “Nicolien has turned her disability into her calling card. Literally. I find that very inspiring.”

Nicolien:

“I’ve been visually impaired since birth, and I’ve always fought hard for my independence. My left eye never fully developed, and at some point I started experiencing pain and sensitivity to light. That pain and the constant hospital visits got in the way of my life. I could hardly do anything anymore.

Since I lost my eye, things have been going better. I really want to prove that I can do things on my own, and now I have my own massage salon. My business card says: “The less I can see, the better my hands feel.”
