On Thursday, June 13, 2024, the “Oog in OOG” exhibition opened at the muZIEum. This exhibition featured photographs of people with eye prostheses. The portraits were taken by Marina Marinkovic, who is not only an ophthalmologist but also a photographer. The OOG in OOG Association published a booklet featuring this series of portraits.

Marina: “Creating this portrait series has shown me time and again that your appearance is much less important in relationships and for your self-confidence than I apparently still think it is.”

Nellie:

“I can’t ride a bike anymore. I lose my balance when turning ever since I started seeing out of just one eye. Oddly enough, I can ride a scooter just fine. I also took a course on driving RVs for women, and that went really well, too.”

It seems like my balance isn’t as much of an issue when things are moving quickly. It’s mostly practical things I run into; my appearance isn’t really a problem. At home, I often go about my day without my eye. My husband doesn’t make a big deal out of it. It’s just the way it is. Before I leave the house, I really have to check to make sure I have everything with me: hearing aid… eye…”
