On Thursday, June 13, 2024, the “Oog in OOG” exhibition opened at the muZIEum. This exhibition featured photographs of people with eye prostheses. The portraits were taken by Marina Marinkovic, who is not only an ophthalmologist but also a photographer. The OOG in OOG Association published a booklet featuring this series of portraits.

Marina: “During the photo shoot, René and his wife told me about their experience in my department. Hospitals often ask for feedback through surveys, but a real, hour-long conversation is something else entirely.”

René:

“I noticed a spot in my field of vision and went to see my family doctor, who referred me to an ophthalmologist. I was able to get an appointment within two days, which already made me suspect that something was wrong. My eye had to be removed.”

It was a strange time when a lot happened. After the surgery, I lost my job. I found a new job, but I’ve since quit that one. Now I’m in the process of building a house.

“I have post-chemo hair now, and I’m letting it all grow out. I have small eyes, and actually, no one can tell that I have an artificial eye, which is nice because then I’m not constantly reminded of it.”
