Research shows that about one in three people with a visual impairment experiences feelings of depression and/or anxiety. This is at least twice as common as in the general population. These symptoms can lead to significant limitations in daily life.

For older adults (50+), a support program is available for this purpose at the rehabilitation and care facilities for the blind and visually impaired: Koninklijke Visio, Bartiméus, and the Robert Coppes Foundation. No such program currently exists for people between the ages of 18 and 50, even though they could benefit greatly from it.

In order to launch a specific program for depression and anxiety that meets the needs of this target group, more research is needed first. Would you like to participate? If so, please contact researcher Rob van der Linden at r.vanderlinden1@amsterdamumc.nl
