Events

We’ll gather in the heart of the Netherlands to listen to various presentations by healthcare providers. Medical topics will be covered, as well as information about ocular prostheses and life with one eye. In the afternoon, there will be workshops and discussion groups to choose from. In small groups, you’ll explore a specific theme. There is also a program for partners. During coffee breaks and lunch, there will be plenty of opportunity to talk with other participants. There is also always a small information fair. The General Members’ Meeting will also take place during this day.

This event is for children of the OOG in OOG Association who see with one eye or wear an eye prosthesis. Siblings are also very welcome. The children will meet peers and enjoy fun activities together, such as a visit to a zoo or museum. The group includes children with microphthalmia, anophthalmia, retinoblastoma, and children who see with one eye for other reasons. In the morning, there is often an informational program for parents and grandparents, featuring presentations and workshops. In the afternoon, there is a joint program for the entire group, bringing adults and children together.

Once a year, we organize a fun activity for young people ages 12–18. For example, we might go to a trampoline park, a theater, or a climbing adventure park. Parents are also welcome to come and chat with each other while the young people have fun together.

Once a year, we get together with young adults between the ages of 18 and 40 for a fun outing. People in this age group often face similar challenges at work, in school, and with dating, and sometimes have questions about starting a family. It can be helpful to ask your questions to peers who also have vision in one eye and/or wear an ocular prosthesis. Or maybe you have some good tips to share with others.

Every year, we organize a guided walk for the association’s members, with activities along the route. During the walk, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to talk to others who are sighted in one eye or wear an ocular prosthesis.

About eight times a year, there is a 1.5-hour meeting via Zoom. There is often a short presentation by a healthcare provider, followed by a discussion where you can ask questions. Topics might include: ocular melanoma, retinoblastoma, microphthalmia/anophthalmia, glass eye prostheses, fatigue, work, etc.

The OOG in OOG Association also regularly attends events organized by other organizations. These include conferences for healthcare providers, the Melanoma Foundation’s information day, the Oogbeurs, and so on.
