Through a course of radiation therapy in Germany, they were able to remove the tumor in both eyes. However, this resulted in 5% vision in my right eye and 1% in my left eye.
After all the eye exams over the past few years, my vision has remained the same, and I don’t know any different. My parents have always said, “We’ll try everything, and if that doesn’t work, we’ll look for a suitable solution.” That’s what has brought me to where I am today.
I started competitive swimming at a young age, and what began as a hobby eventually led me to compete in the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, where I had the opportunity to swim in the finals.
After my career in elite sports, I pursued another dream: studying Hotel and Event Management, which included international experiences such as an internship in Curaçao and completing my minor in Madrid.
It’s been over a year since I graduated, and with my associate’s degree in hand, I’m currently working full-time as an event planner at a hotel.
Retinoblastoma hasn’t stopped me from pursuing my goals and dreams. That’s exactly what I want to share with everyone. Don’t let anything hold you back—go for it. There will always be a way to make your dreams and goals come true.
