Getting fitted for an ocular prosthesis is an important step in restoring your appearance. Most people look forward to receiving their artificial eye after an illness or accident. To get fitted for an ocular prosthesis, you’ll need to make an appointment with an ocularist.

What are the steps involved in fitting an ocular prosthesis?

Taking an impression: The ocularist sometimes takes an impression of the eye socket, especially if the eye socket is severely damaged. However, the ocularist usually selects a base model that resembles the shape of the patient’s own eyeball and fills this model with wax.
Choosing a Color and Pattern: Based on the patient’s healthy eye, the ocularist selects a suitable color and pattern for the iris of the prosthetic eye.
Customization: The prosthesis is custom -made. A glass artificial eye is ready the same day. For a plastic eye prosthesis, two visits to the ocularist are usually necessary to get the shape and color just right.

Is it possible to get a prosthetic eye fitted for a blind eye?

It is also possible to wear a thin ocular prosthesis on a blind eye that no longer looks good.
