How do I care for my ocular prosthesis?

Caring for an ocular prosthesis is simple. Follow these steps for optimal care:

  1. Cleaning with lukewarm water: Rinse your ocular prosthesis with clean, lukewarm water. Avoid extreme temperatures and harsh cleaning products, such as CIF, which can damage the surface or material of the prosthesis.
  2. Hygiene: Wash your hands before removing the dentures. Practice good hygiene to prevent infections.
  3. Prevent drops: Fill the sink with a small amount of water before removing your dentures. Place a washcloth at the bottom to catch them if they fall, especially if you have glass dentures.
  4. Soaking to Remove Stains: If your dentures are heavily soiled, you can soak them for ten minutes in a solution of one teaspoon of salt per liter of water. Then rinse them thoroughly and wipe them down with a soft cotton cloth.
  5. Antiseptic solution: Antiseptic solutions can help with certain symptoms. Ask your ocularist for more information.
