What are we going to do?
Another lovely walk has been planned for Saturday, March 14. This time, it’s in the heart of the country—in Amersfoort. It’s easily accessible by car and public transportation. We’ll start at the Amersfoort train station. The walk is about 5 kilometers long. We’ll be walking through the historic center and the city park.
Amersfoort is a charming, vibrant city with centuries-old legends and mysterious tales. History comes to life during the walk. We’ll pass beautiful facades, towers, and city walls. We’ll pass the following landmarks along the way: the Onze-Lieve-Vrouwetoren (the symbol of Amersfoort), the old, angular Dieventoren, and, of course, we’ll take a look at the three preserved city gates.
Meet-up and Lunch
We’ll meet between 11:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. in front of the Oudshoorn flower shop at Amersfoort Station (on the south side). The florist is located inside on the right side (before the turnstiles) for those arriving by car, and on the left side (after the turnstiles) for those arriving by train. From there, we’ll walk to Délifrance, where we’ll have lunch and get to know each other better.
The Walk
After lunch, we’ll go for a walk together through the beautiful city, heading first toward the Tower of Our Lady. The walk is 5 km long, with benches along the route where we can take a short break. Of course, we’ll also stop to admire the beautiful sights and switch walking partners. Because while we’re walking, there’s plenty of time to chat with each other. The route isn’t entirely flat; we’ll be walking over old cobblestones and climbing two sets of stairs. So sturdy shoes are recommended.
To wrap things up, we’ll have one more drink together and then walk back to the station so everyone can head home by the end of the afternoon.
