Book: “My Special Eye”
Bruno is 6 years old and has many qualities that make him special. For one thing, he’s a fantastic big brother; he’s good at soccer; he’s a great team player; he loves nature; and he really enjoys drawing animals. And, oh yes, he also has a special eye—an eye prosthesis.
The booklet is now available in Dutch, too!
In this 24-page booklet, he explains how he deals with this. He compares a visit to the ocularist to a visit to the dentist—which is also necessary to keep your teeth healthy. That way, the prosthesis stays beautiful and shiny, too.
“My Special Eye” was originally written in English by Maria Gomez-Lozano. She wrote it with great empathy, drawing on the experiences of her son Bruno, and the book was translated into Dutch by her Dutch mother-in-law, Anneke Smit.
Reassuring a Child
This booklet can be an excellent resource for helping and reassuring a child when they are faced with the process of being fitted for and using an ocular prosthesis. Ever since the booklet was published, we (the OOG in OOG Association) have always recommended it to parents who contact us for information!
