During the PLONS! International Short Documentary Film Festival in Leeuwarden, the premiere of Eline van Diggelen’s remarkable TV documentary “Nieuw oog” (New Eye), which focuses on ocular prostheses, will take place on Sunday afternoon, September 4. The film was shot in the studio of ocularist Jelmer Remmers in Grou, Friesland. We see him at work alongside painter and prosthetist Julios. Jelmer and Julios create the ocular prostheses through modeling, scanning, and traditional painting techniques.
While Jelmer and Julios focus on the tiniest details during the manufacturing process and, at the same time, pay close attention to the patient’s reactions, we also get a good sense of what the new eye means to the patient.
The 9-minute film will also be broadcast on Dutch television. On Saturday, December 3 (3:30 p.m.) and Sunday, December 4 (1:10 p.m.), the film will air on NPO 2. On Sunday, December 4, the film will be shown all evening and night on Omroep Fryslân (starting at 5:00 p.m.).
