“Eye to Eye” Exhibition
On Thursday, June 13, 2024, the exhibition “Oog in Oog” opens at muZIEum! This exhibition features a series of portraits created by an oncological ophthalmologist from LUMC and photographer Marina Marinkovic.
Exhibition on Life with One Eye at the muZIEum
For this portrait series, Marina visited people who have lost an eye and wear an ocular prosthesis in their own homes.
Marina Marinkovic has been performing enucleations—surgeries to remove an eye—since 2006. When she interacts with patients after such a surgery, Marina is often amazed by their resilience. During follow-up visits, she sees how strong and optimistic these people often are, but the interaction at the outpatient clinic is brief. Moreover, the dynamic between doctor and patient influences the course of the conversation there. For this photo series, the roles were reversed: Marina visited the patient.
This portrait series was created to boost the self-confidence and self-esteem of this patient group. It’s important to discuss the possibilities available to you if you have or will be receiving an ocular prosthesis. This portrait series was brought to life in collaboration with the OOG in OOG Association and muZIEum.
“Oog in Oog” will be on view in the muZIEum reception area from Friday, June 14, 2024, through Sunday, November 3, 2024.
