What are we going to do?

Would you like to join Anita Hol-Bubeck and Dianne de Bruin—both members of the OOG in OOG Association—for a walk on Saturday, September 6, 2025? Anita and Dianne are locals and enjoy sharing stories about the origins of this hilly landscape—including the Heumenseschans and the Mookerschans—as well as the local scenery, flora, and fauna while we walk. All members are welcome to bring a walking partner.

The walk leads to De Mookerheide Hunting Lodge, which was built in 1904 in the Art Nouveau style. The castle has served many purposes and was recently completely renovated and restored to its original condition, complete with stained-glass windows and that fairy-tale shade of pink! We’ll wrap up the walk with lunch at this beautiful hunting lodge.

The Program

10:00 a.m.: Welcome with coffee and pastries at Hotel Van der Valk, Rijksweg 1 in Molenhoek.
10:30 a.m.: Start of the walk
1:00 p.m. (approximately): Arrival and lunch at the De Mookerheide Hunting Lodge
2:30 p.m.: Closing ceremony and walk back to the starting location.

Practical Information

The route is about 6 kilometers long and runs through hilly terrain; on steep sections, there are steps to help with the elevation gain. We recommend wearing sturdy shoes with sufficient traction.

Accessibility of the starting location

  • By bus from Nijmegen or from the direction of Venlo, take bus line 83. The bus stops right in front of the starting location.
  • By train, the starting point is about a 10-minute walk from the Molenhoek Station.
  • By car: The starting location is on the N271 provincial highway between Nijmegen and Venlo. There is plenty of (free) parking available at the location.

Check out this information about how to get to Hotel Molenhoek.

The events are open only to members of the OOG in OOG Association. Each member may bring a walking partner. Please register by September 5 so we can make lunch reservations. There is a participation fee of €5 per person.
