A study by the Dutch Patient Federation shows that people who are able to continue working despite their disability (such as seeing with only one eye) or medical condition rate their quality of life significantly higher than people who are no longer working. Furthermore, they rate both their physical and mental health more highly: work provides structure, fewer financial worries, and a sense of purpose. The Dutch Patients\u2019 Federation observes that people are generally happy when\u2014if their illness or condition allows it\u2014they can continue to contribute to society. That is why the question \u201cCan I keep working?\u201d ranks among the top three topics they are most concerned about when they are told they are ill. Fortunately, most people who see with only one eye can continue to work. <\/p>\n
