Her eye has to be removed. She’s glad about that because it hurts. Six weeks after the surgery, Rachel goes with her to see Axel Franken, the ocular prosthesis maker. <\/p>\n

Viv is undergoing a total eye removal, known as an enucleation<\/a>. In most cases, children undergo an evisceration<\/a>, in which only part of the eye and the cornea are removed, but the white of the eye remains in the eye socket. <\/p>\n
