From what my parents have told me, I know they were sent from pillar to post until, fortunately, they found a doctor who was familiar with this rare form of eye cancer. In my case, it was a spontaneous mutation, and after my left eye was removed, I was able to continue my life in good health.

Recognition and Identification

Even so, I noticed at a young age that physical care took center stage, while the mental impact went virtually unmentioned. I felt different, and others noticed that too. My ocular prosthesis helped me participate in society, but it took a lot of energy for me to truly accept myself. I’m now 32 years old and feel confident and secure in who I am. But even now, I find that there’s little recognition or understanding when it comes to retinoblastoma.

Time for a change

Retinoblastoma cuts deep, but our stories reach further. That’s why we came up with the idea for the documentary *A Look Ahead*. In it, we share personal stories, shed light on different aspects of the disease, and above all, we show that there is still so much life to live.

Want to join?

Would you like to contribute to this documentary as well? Perhaps by sharing your own story, offering your ideas, or simply learning more about this project? Your voice makes a difference, and together we can foster greater understanding, recognition, and connection.

Please contact Laura at contact@eenblikvooruit.nl

My name is Laura.
