I’ve been involved since the founding of MMOP, the predecessor of the OOG in OOG Association.

What made you decide to become a volunteer?
When my friend Tonnie Landman had an accident in 1997 while tearing down a summer cottage, she also lost sight in her right eye. After her hospital stay, she was looking for information about living with one eye and was also desperately seeking contact with others in the same situation. Since there was no patient organization in this field at the time, she decided to start one herself. This led to the founding of MMOP, People with an Eye Prosthesis. Naturally, I supported her as much as I could.

What did you do during your working life?
I worked as a freelance journalist for Het Parool for many years, and after that I also wrote copy in the advertising industry. After my time at Het Parool, I worked at various large advertising agencies, and starting in 1981, I ran my own agency for over twenty years. I did a great deal of work for clients in the travel industry as a campaign strategist.

What does your volunteer role entail?
My work experience naturally tied in very well with writing articles for the association’s newsletter, which ultimately led to my becoming the (executive) editor of the magazine for the new OOG in OOG Association. In addition, I did all sorts of odd jobs, such as welcoming guests at the national meet-and-greet days. It was enjoyable and also very educational to see how differently people cope with the loss of an eye.

What impact has Tonnies’ prosthetic eye had on your life(s)?
The Impact It was enormous. Tonnie and I had just (re)discovered our love for each other shortly before the accident. I panicked and was terrified of losing her, but fortunately, a 17-hour surgery saved her life. In the end, it brought us closer together faster and more deeply than ever before. To this day, our bond remains very strong.

What are your hobbies?
I collect all sorts of things: comic books, paintings, soccer memorabilia, and especially Italian stamps—I’m the president and founder of the Filitalia stamp club, which has about 90 members. Thanks to that, I’ve fortunately managed to avoid falling into a black hole after a busy life.

Is there anything else you’d like to say to the readers?
Especially during difficult times, try to see the bright spots in your life and always keep track of your knots.

Vincent Prange, a partner of founder Tonnie Landman, was our association’s first volunteer.

[125
post-6314","library_pt","type-library_pt","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","library_cat-volunteers
["GET
